Start Here for a High Tech Career Emerging Worker program
Project Description
The Start Here for a High Tech Career program is a combined academic and work experience program which introduces youth ages 16-21 to the field of Information Technology. This structured program targets disadvantaged or disabled youth through a combination of standardized classroom instruction and real world work experience, utilizing an apprenticeship model.
The program consists of six weeks of formal and hands-on classroom instruction, followed by eight weeks of apprenticeship and work experience in several IT career tracks. Participants graduate the course with a Microsoft Digital Literacy Certificate.
The Start Here for a High Tech Career program includes educational exposure to Tiers I through IV of the Competencies Building Blocks Model.
Outcome from Using the Product
This program will:
- Expose youth (ages 16 to 21) to high tech career possibilities in the Information Technology (IT) sector
- Encourage youth (ages 16 to 21) to complete high school and pursue technical training
- Provide work experience and industry recognized credentials to youth (ages 16 to 21)
