Product Name
Long Term Care Facility Career Pathway

Project Description
This 90-hour training program for healthcare service workers consists of a combination of classroom instruction, including a basic workplace literacy component, and on-the-job training. Low income job applicants with little to no experience in health care are trained onsite at an organization with a high demand for labor in five entry-level positions: food service worker, food service porter, environmental services porter, environmental services assistant, and laundry assistant. These entry-level positions are a stepping stone into the health care industry for the trainees. Upon completion of the program trainees are hired by one of the participating partner health care facilities.

Outcome from Using the Product

  • Provide a career pathway and reduce turnover at local healthcare facilities
  • Provide low income individuals with transferable skills and increase the opportunity for career advancement in the health care field. In addition, the skills that are obtained upon completion of the training can be transferred to other businesses and industries which will only contribute to the overall quality of the work force.
  • Develop a program replicable by numerous health care organizations and facilities, using a combination of community workforce development services, educational institution resources and on-site resources for recruiting and hands-on training
